Launch of new 'ANCAP Safety' app

The ‘ANCAP Safety’ app will assist consumers to make safer vehicle choices in an effort to reduce road trauma. ANCAP stands for the Australasian New Car Assessment Program.

ANCAP ratings provide consumers with transparent information on the level of occupant and pedestrian protection and collision avoidance capabilities provided by different vehicle models in the most common types of serious crashes. Each ANCAP rating is measured on a scale of one to five stars. ANCAP recommends a car should not be purchased if it does not have a five-star rating.

The first-of-its-kind app will be launched on-site at a Canberra new car dealership today where an official crash-tested model will enter an Australian showroom for the first time.

The new app has been developed to provide a new mechanism for consumers to access ANCAP safety rating information in the lead-up to a vehicle purchase. The new app will also  provide additional safety-related content and features to see the safer vehicles conversation continue post-purchase.

The app provides consumers with an in-hand, on-the-go tool that they can rely on to provide independent and easily comparable vehicle safety information using data direct from Australia’s independent authority. A range of other key features make this a must-have for all Australian drivers.

The ANCAP app is available for Apple and Android devices and is free.
