Electronic nose to sniff out soil biological activity

Along with sight and touch, smelling soil can often give an indication of what’s happening beneath the soil surface. But rather than using our own sense of smell, a project is underway to develop and commercialise use an electronic nose to uncover exactly what’s happening down below. Claire Harris reports.
